A
Study of Angels
Part
II
Introduction:
Read: Job
38:4,7 Even
though angels (sons of God) were present at creation, they were
created by Jehovah.
Nehemiah 9:6
God’s Word describes the various works they have been involved in
since the beginning.
Body:
I. Their Work in the
Old Testament
-
They were used to
help save Lot and his family. (Genesis
19:15-16)
-
They helped Elijah
in the wilderness when he fled from Jezebel. (I
Kings 19:3-6)
-
An angel appeared
with three boys in the fiery furnace. (Daniel
3:28)
-
An angel shut the
lion’s mouth. (Daniel
6:22)
-
They helped with
giving the Law of Moses. (Deuteronomy
33:2 and
Acts
7:53)
II. Their Work in
the New Testament
-
They delivered a
message to Zacharias. (Luke
1:11-13)
-
They delivered a
message to Mary. (Luke
1:26-28)
-
They announced the
birth of Jesus. (Luke
2:13-14)
-
They rescued
people. (Acts
5:19-20,
Acts
12:7)
-
They did not
teach or tell others how to be saved. (Acts
10:1-5)
Peter told Cornelius about salvation; the angel did not.
-
They escorted the
righteous to Paradise. (Luke
16:22)
-
They work on behalf
of God’s people. (Hebrews
1:13-14)
Do they act as guardian angels and miraculously
protect Christians? Miracles like those performed in the first
century are no longer being performed. What about
Matthew 18:10?
The context in
Matthew 18:1-9
is not about angels; but that we need to be concerned about
children and those young in the faith. Also, note
“their angels” are said to be “in heaven”.
Invitation:
Recall the solemn work of angels at the end of time. (Matthew
13:41-43)
