Names Of God
Part 3
Introduction:
Recall that Yahweh
is the personal name of God. It means to be, or exist. Recall what
he said to Moses in the burning Bush. I am that i am, exodus 3: 14,
the eternal one – uncaused, John 8: 54-58.
This is the name
used when God is making a covenant- Noah, Abraham, moses.
The name Yahweh.
Each reveals something special about Jehovah.
Body:
1.
The Lord will provide
·
genesis 22 genesis 22-Abraham
takes Isaac to mount Moriah where he is to be sacrificed. Just as
his hand is about to end Isaac’s life the following happens, versus
12-14. Provided a ram for a sacrifice - preserved Abraham’s son.

Or- the Lord will see to it. The
literal meaning is, to see. Our English word provide comes from a
Latin word meaning to see ahead.
·
God sees our need before we do
and makes provision, Philippians 4: 19.
·
But as both genesis 22 and
philippians 4 reminds us, obedience on our part is necessary. Note
Matthew 6: 33, also second Corinthians 9: 6-8. God sees to it the
generous giver will not suffer want.
2.
The Lord my banner
·
exodus 17: 8-15. Banner -
imagine a pole with a standard or ensign (flag of nationality).
People looking upon it with hope- rallying point. Recall the flags
in Numbers 21: 4-9, a symbol of hope and deliverance. See John 3:
14-15. Jesus is the banner for the gathering of people from all over
the earth.

The Lord peace
·
story of Gideon- reduced, weeded
out, his army down to 300 to fight against 135,000 Midianites.
prior to this, note judges 6: 24-26.

The Midianites were descendants
of Abraham through his wife Keturah. They were enemies.
Abiezrites word descendants of Joseph through his son Manassa.

Shalom- common greeting and
tranquility. Unimpaired relationships with others and fulfillment in
ones undertakings.
