Adam and Eve
Just a few more days and we will be into a new month
for the Joshua Generation. My prayer is that you are taking advantage of
the opportunities this program affords for you as an individual and us
as a congregation. David said, “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I
might not sin against thee.” I hope you have been doing that. Each week
there is a new memory verse. Each month there are 12-16 new Bible
studies. The slogan can be used often to remind you of the value of the
month’s characteristic. And don’t forget to take advantage of the
bulletin suggestions about how to incorporate the characteristic in your
life. Take full advantage of the opportunity to grow afforded by the
Joshua Generation.
Our study today is found in Genesis, chapter 3. Anyone
familiar with the Bible knows this event that brought death upon all
men. Satan carried on a conversation with Eve. He told her two blatant
lies:
(1) that she and Adam would not die if she ate of the
tree of knowledge (2) that they could have knowledge like God about good
and evil. The scripture says that Eve took of the fruit and gave some to
Adam who was with her. Paul, by inspiration, records that Eve was
deceived by Satan, not Adam (1 Tim. 2:14). Paul also records that the
first sin by man was Adam’s, not Eve’s (Rom. 5:12-21; 1 Cor. 5:21-22).
It would seem that he abandoned his God given position of leadership in
this vital instance. Let’s learn some lessons.
-
Satan is the father of lies. He is a liar (Jn. 8:44,
this week’s memory verse).
-
Eve’s own lust was already working on her. She saw
that the fruit was “pleasant to the eyes” and “good for food.” This
appealed to her through lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes. Satan
appealed to her pride of life.
-
Believing a lie is always dangerous to our soul.
-
It is easy to believe a lie, especially if we are
allowing other lusts to lure us (that is, if we really would like for a
thing to be true).
-
It is impossible to calculate how often lies take us
into sin (from the use of sex to sell everything from beer to car parts
to the lies that deceive millions in false religion around the world.
-
We should hate lies and lying (Prov. 6:16-18).
Have a great day. Truth fears no questions.
