2 Timothy 4:1-4
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who
shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove,
rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the
time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having
itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the
truth, and shall be turned unto fables. KJV
What does the
church of Christ teach about Preaching?
What does the Bible say about
Preaching?
Preaching
Introduction:
Preaching
the Word of God has been an integral part of God’s plan of
redemption since the very beginning of time. Paul told Timothy to
preach the word. If you don’t teach, people will turn aside.
II Timothy 4:2-4
In the Old
Testament, two different Hebrew words are often translated
“preach.” Let us examine those words now.
Body:
1. Basar (baw-sar')
To bring
news or bear tidings – good or bad
Announce a
message: a birth, death, or military news I Samuel
31:8-9
Refers to preaching
Isaiah 61:1-2
Jesus used this
passage in referring to Himself. Luke 4:16-22
Paul quotes from
Isaiah in Romans 10:14-15. He stresses the importance of
preaching in God’s sight. Isaiah 52:7
Glad tidings of
Jesus are preached. Luke 2
II. Qara'
(kaw-raw')
To proclaim or call
out Psalms 105:1
Jonah announced the
warning. Jonah 3:1-4
The message was
made clear to help people understand. This is an excellent
example of preaching. Nehemiah 8:1-8
III.
Preaching in the first-century church
Peter
had something distinctive to say at the beginning of the
church. Acts 2:14, 40-41
People must
hear the message. Acts 11:19-21
In Thessalonica
Paul explained about the Christ. His message was distinctive
from every other message of the first century. Acts 17:1-4
Many in the first
century and many today think that preaching the gospel is
foolish. I Corinthians 1:18-21
Preaching is telling the message of the Christ. As a result of
the suffering on the cross, only one faith leads to
righteousness. Many would rather hear psychology, self-help,
or funny stories to help them feel good. I Timothy 4:2-4
Invitation:
Preach with
long suffering. We must take the message to others.

Matt 11:28-29 "Come unto me, all ye that
labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek
and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your
souls."
