Bobby Stafford Why Must There Be A Day Of Judgment?   Judgment December 16, 2012 Sunday PM Sermon

Why Will There Be a Day of Judgment?

Introduction:

Recently the question, “What purpose does the judgment serve?” was discussed in Words of Truth.  No doubt in our own conversations with friends and family that same question has been asked.  What does God tell us in His Word about the Judgment Day?

Body:

I.     A Day of Personal Responsibility

·       We must stand on our own two feet.  There will be no one to help us, not family, friends, or neighbors.

·       It is not a trial where we can call character witnesses.

·       We can’t blame or rely upon religious creeds or traditions to save us.  Neither will sincerity or morality be our judge.  Saul of Tarsus was sincere.

·       Telling Jesus, the Judge, that you attended the “church of your choice” won’t cut it.  Nor will saying that you had a “better felt than told” religion save you.

II.   A Day of Separation

·       All people will be present.  (Matthew 25:31-33)  The judgment of everyone will occur at the same time.

·       We will be gathered before the throne.  (Revelation 20:11-15)

·       This will be one final judgment of good and evil.                 (Revelation 11:18)

III.          A Day of Examination

·       II Corinthians 5:10 tells us that judgment is based upon each one’s deeds.  God is no respecter of persons.

·       Revelation 20:12 shows God to be completely fair and just.  No one will be able to argue with God.

·       Alcohol, gambling, adulterous relationships will make a difference!  (Romans 14:12)

·       God’s verdict is right.  (Genesis 18:25)

IV.          A Day of Rewards and Punishments

·       Matthew 11:22, 24 state that it will be worse for some.

·       Mark 12:38-40 tells us of greater condemnation.

·       Luke 12:47-48 speaks of many stripes.

·       II Timothy 4:8 tells of a crown.

Conclusion:

While each person will know their destiny at death, the Day of Judgment has several purposes.  It is of vital importance that we be prepared for that Day.
