Those Who Have Never Heard
Introduction:
Who will be
lost forever in a devil’s hell? Many would say only people like
Hitler or serial killers or others like them. One conversation I
had with a person of a different religious faith said that there
would be less than ten! But what does the Bible teach?
Body:
I.
Classes of People Who Will Be Lost
-
Atheists
Psalms 14:1
The conclusion that God does not exist is foolish because ample
evidence exists that there is a God. Romans
1:18-20
The atheist has no faith in God.
Hebrews 11:6
-
Good
moral people who have not obeyed the gospel.
They have rejected the Lord’s church.
Ephesians 5:23, 25

Unfaithful Christians

Those Who Have Never Heard the Gospel
-
Will
those people who have never heard the gospel be lost?
This is an emotionally-charged question. It doesn’t mean that
we shouldn’t examine it.
-
People
are not lost because they don’t believe that Jesus is the Son of
God. People are not lost because they don’t repent and are not
baptized. People are not lost because they do not obey the
gospel. People are lost because they sin! Sin is
what separates us from God.
Isaiah 59:1-2
Obeying the gospel is how that sin is removed.
Acts 22:16
How many have sinned? “All” Romans
3:23

Illustration (by Gene Burgett) A man goes on a fishing trip,
falls out of the boat and drowns. He had several life
preservers on the boat; but no one was there to throw him one.
Why did the man drown? Was it because no one threw him a life
jacket? No! He drowned because he fell into the water. That is
what caused his death. People are lost because of their sins;
not because no one preached the gospel to them.
-
Further
evidence from the Scripture:
-
God’s purity and holiness
Habakkuk 1:13
It is not possible for Jehovah to allow sin into heaven,
His dwelling place.
-
One
must be born again. John
3:5
“except” – If and only if !
-
Jesus is the only way.
John 14:6
-
The
Great Commission If people are saved because they did not
hear the gospel, why did Jesus tell us to go into all the
world and preach the gospel?
Mark 16:15
Conclusion:
The Bible
clearly informs us about who will be eternally lost. It is our duty
to try and make that number as small as possible!
