God Loves
The first use of the word “love” in Scripture is in
Genesis 22:2.
“Then He said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac,
whom you
love,
and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a
burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall
tell you.”
NKJV
In
this context, it is a Father’s love and sacrifice. This
account suggests God’s eventual means of redemption for
all mankind. Isaac, an only son, carried his own wood
on his back as Jesus carried His cross. (Genesis
22:6)
Abraham says God Himself will provide a lamb for the
offering. (Genesis
22:7-8)
What is fact happens is that God provides a ram. (Genesis
22:13-14)
See
Hebrews 11:17-19,
I Peter 2:23-24,
Hebrews 9:28.
In
Genesis
21:2
“For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old
age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.”
NKJV
This is the son that God promised He would bless Abraham
with descendants.
·
Scripture tells us Jehovah loves His people. (Deuteronomy
23:5)
We should love Him with all our being. (Deuteronomy
6:5)
·
God’s Word also reveals that God loves righteousness (Psalm
11:7)
and justice. (Psalm
33:5)
·
This is a clear call for those who love God to also love
righteousness and justice.
