The Gospel
According to Isaiah.
You have heard of
the four accounts of the gospel. But have you heard of the gospel
according to Isaiah? Elements of the gospel were foretold by Old
Testament prophets; the coming of the Messiah as well as the
establishment of his Kingdom. One such prophet was Isaiah who lived
750 years before Christ. The book of Isaiah is filled with so many
prophecies about the Messiah and his Kingdom.
1.
THE
MESSIAH & WHO HE WOULD BE
a.
Born
of a virgin Isaiah 7:14. His name will be Immanuel. Fulfilled with
the birth of Jesus by Mary Matthew 1:18 through 23.
b.
A
wonderful child, Isaiah 9:6-7. He would reign, announced by angels
at his birth, Luke 2: 11.
c.
Of the
family of David, Isaiah 11:1. Jesse was David's father. His lineage
shown in Matthew 1: 1, 5-6.
d.
The
spirit of the Lord would rest upon him, Isaiah 11: 2. Manifested at
his baptism, Matthew 3: 16- 17.
2.
WHAT
HIS MINISTRY WOULD BE LIKE
a.
Proceeded by a 4 runner, John the Baptist, Isaiah 40: 3- 5.
Fulfilled by the ministry of John the Baptist, Matthew 3: 1- 3.
b.
Anointed to preach good tidings column Isaiah 61: 1- 3. Fulfilled by
his preaching in Nazareth, Luke 4: 16- 22.
c.
Bring
light to those living in Galilee, Isaiah 9: 1- 2. Fulfilled by
Christ living and preaching in capernaum, Matthew 4: 12- 16.
d.
Suffer
on our behalf, and Isaiah 53: 4- 8. His suffering and death for
our sins, Matthew 8: 16- 17 and 1 Peter 2: 24.
3.
THE
MESSIAH’S KINGDOM
a.
Its
origin, Isaiah 2: 1- 2. Note mark one: 14- 15, then Luke 24: 46- 49,
Acts 1: 4- 8.
b.
Proceed from Jerusalem, Isaiah 2: 3, and fulfilled, acts 2: 1- 4.
c.
A
Kingdom of peace, Isaiah 2: 4, Isaiah 9: 6- 7. Fulfilled in Romans
14: 17.
d.
Would
include gentiles, Isaiah 11: 10; 42: 1, 6-7. Jesus united Jews and
gentiles, Ephesians 2: 11- 18.
e.
Kingdom would last forever, Isaiah 9:7. Angel Gabriel to Mary, Luke
1: 31- 33. Also Hebrews 1:8.
f.
Usher
in a new heavens and a new earth, Isaiah 60 5: 17- 25; 66: 22- 23.
Spiritual imagery fulfilled with the coming of Christ and the
messiah's Kingdom.
God will have joy in
his people when Christ comes, Isaiah 65: 18- 19. Power of death
destroyed when Christ comes Isaiah 65: 20 Satan defeated Isaiah 65:
25. Fulfilled in Colossians 2: 15. The wolf and the lamb Isaiah 11:
6- 10 Messiah and his Kingdom. The joy of salvation. Everything
changed when Christ came.
