What Are We Saved By?
Introduction:
an example of physical salvation. Man and woman eating dinner at
home. Suddenly man clutches chest- heart attack. Woman calls 911.
EMT arrive in an ambulance. They use defibrillators and start the
man's heart beating again. Question- what saved the man? His wife,
telephone, ambulance, EMT, the defibrillator? Which one could be
left out and the man still be saved? So what saved the man? They all
did! So it is with man's spiritual salvation. It's impossible to say
man is saved exclusively by one thing only. Many things are involved
and necessary for one to be saved.
Body
1.
We are saved by Jehovah God.
·
Romans 6:23 – “free gift” -
salvation is truly a wonderful gift. God was not compelled or forced
to offer salvation. We deserve death. God was not obligated but
offered it out of love. “For God so loved the world that he gave his
only begotten son...” John 3:16.
·
But the gift of salvation must
be received. The gift of salvation is conditional. It was offered to
all, but one had to meet the conditions to receive it. Example labor
John 6:27 & seek, Romans 2:6-7. Without a doubt, man is saved by God
and salvation is truly a gift. Without God, salvation is not
possible.
2.
We are saved by faith.
·
John 3:16- trust is essential.
We cannot be saved without it. Also note 1 John 5:13.
·
What kind of faith? James 2:14,
17, 24.
·
At what point, or when does
faith save? The answer is after it's demonstrated! An expression of
trust in God. Example- Hebrews 11:7 Noah.
·
Man is saved by faith.
3.
We are saved by obedience to law.
·
James 1:22, 25-the law of
Christ.
·
Obedience is essential! Hebrews
5:8-9.
·
Obedience is an expression of
trust, Matthew 7:21-28.
·
Obedience apart from faith is
powerless to save.
·
Man is saved by obedience to the
law of Christ.
4.
We are saved by the grace of God.
·
God's divine favor, Ephesians
2:5; 8-9.
·
Based on grace, Romans 4:16.
·
Man is saved by grace of God.
5.
Man is saved by Christ’s blood.
·
Christ blood saves people from
their sins, Matthew 1:21.
·
We receive redemption through
his blood, Ephesians 1:7.
·
Us by his blood, revelation 1:5.
6.
We are saved by ourselves.
·
We play a part in our salvation.
We have responsibility, Acts:37-40.
·
We are to save ourselves, Acts
2:40.
7.
We are saved by baptism.
·
One Peter 3:20-21, baptism saves
by washing away our sins, acts 22:16.
·
This is because sinners contact
the blood Christ in water baptism, Roman 6:4.
·
“He that believes and is
baptized shall be saved”, Mark 16:16.
8.
We are saved by hope.
·
Romans 8:24 - our hope of an
eternal home in heaven urges us to trust and obey our Lord and
savior.
9.
Conclusion:
so which one of these can be left out and still be able to be saved?
None!
